FAQ Black is White Hydrosonic
Everything you ever wanted to know – and more.
I've seen that there are other toothbrush heads. Do they are fit?
Yes, all our toothbrush heads fit on all our hydrosonic toothbrushes. This includes the CHS 200 sensitive and the CHS 300 power. They both support the hydrodynamic effect, but are slightly larger than the BIW 259 that comes with the Hydrosonic Black Is White. Why not give them a try?
Are 32,000 or 42,000 movements full speed now?
In fact 42,000 movements per minute are full speed. However, this is very fast, or so fast in fact, that the filaments cannot make the full movement in this time. This is why it feels softer, even though more movement is happening, and why it's called the "soft" mode. At 32,000 movements per minute the filaments can extend fully and thus provide an optimum clean, which we call "Intensive".
Imagine you have windscreen wipers that move 32,000 times per minute and with each movement they reach the edge of the windscreen, so that you get a premium field of vision. If the windscreen wipers move 42,000 times in the same time they are no longer able to reach right to the edge of the windscreen. Our recommendation: 32,000 is more than 42,000 although this might sound strange. Less is more!
The idea that you have to change the toothbrush head every three months is just a marketing ploy, isn't it?
Of course, we're delighted when you buy our toothbrush heads. However, there's a very good reason why you should change the brush head every three months at the latest (sooner if you have braces or you clean your teeth more frequently than the standard two times daily for two or three minutes). With time the filaments wear down and that means that the cleaning performance is no longer 100%. Another reason that is given is that bacteria tend to collect in the brush head. We don't necessarily see this as a reason – after all, they're your bacteria. However, if you suffer from periodontitis this is a different matter. Please discuss the frequency that you should change your brush head with your dentist. Also it's sensible to change the brush head after a cold. Otherwise you're just hanging on to the bacteria.
DENTAL MEDICAL ISSUES
How do I do it correctly?
Place the brush head half on the tooth and half on the gum. Remain in this position for three to four seconds. Possibly move the brush once or twice into the space to the left and right of the tooth, but only very gently. Then do the same with the next tooth. Remember: The less movement you make the better. Leave the machine to do the work. Watch our video at www.curaprox.com.
Can I increase the hydrodynamic effect?
Some people actually take a small sip of water when they clean their teeth to increase the hydrodynamic turbulence. However, no studies have been carried out on this. It certainly can't do any harm and it also sounds very reasonable. However, studies that have been carried out on the efficacy of the hydrodynamic effect have been based just on the normal toothpaste-saliva-water mix that is created when you brush your teeth.
I've heard that hydrosonic toothbrushes also brush between the teeth. Is that true?
Yes and no. Yes: The hydrodynamic effect ensures that teeth are cleaned up to two millimetres into the gaps between the teeth, even if the brushes themselves cannot access the gaps. So you don't need to worry if you forget to floss or to use your interdental brushes from time to time. No: Flossing the front teeth and using interdental brushes on the other teeth is exactly what you need to do. Despite highly sophisticated hydrosonic toothbrushes with a hydrodynamic effect. Our recommendation: Ask your dentist or dental hygienist what you should use for the different gaps between your teeth. Perhaps it's a bit presumptuous to say this, but it's also true: On the whole dental practitioners tend to recommend our interdental brushes.
It won't charge!
Something is wrong – my Black is White won't charge up.
Check you have plugged the cable in properly. It is particularly important to check whether the USB connector is plugged into the mains adapter properly.
My device is plugged in correctly, but it isn't charging up.
It may be something to do with either the charger or the hand-held unit. To find out which, carry out the following test: switch on the hand-held unit and place it on the plugged-in charger. If the hand-held unit switches off automatically, the charger is OK. If it continues running, then there is something wrong with the charger. You can return the faulty device and request a replacement.
It doesn't clean!
My device doesn't seem to clean properly. Am I doing something wrong?
The bristles have probably started to wear out by now. Try with a new brush head. If it still feels the same, please contact us.
Mind the gap!
There is a gap between the brush head and the hand-held unit. Does the brush head not fit properly there?
Please note the importance of this gap. If the brush head were placed on the hand-held unit without this small amount of free space, the vibrations would be blocked and not transmitted properly as a result. So this gap ensures there is enough room for the vibration to spread. This is a metaphor for the way we should live. A little freedom gives us the vibrancy we need to get us going.
My device seems to have short breakdowns from time to time.
That's right. Every thirty seconds the device takes a short break. This is how it tells you that the average cleaning time for one quadrant of the jaw is up. Don't let this worry you and always spend more rather than less time cleaning.
It doesn't stop any more!
My device no longer stops automatically after two minutes.
That's right. Two minutes is the time dreamt up by a marketing department but not by a dentist. However, teeth are relatively well cleaned after two minutes. Ideally you should spend three to four seconds on each tooth, and on each side. Remember there are three: Tongue and cheek side plus chewing surface. If you have 28 teeth (in fact everyone has 32, four of which are hidden wisdom teeth) that makes 84 sides. Multiplied by three seconds that makes 252 seconds, which is more than four minutes. Curaprox recommends that you clean for as long as is necessary. This means that you should decide when you've finished.
It doesn't lock!
Can I lock the device so that it doesn't start up in my suitcase?
The Hydrosonic Black Is White doesn't lock, I'm afraid. That wouldn't be right for it. The best idea is to use the travel case. It has been specially designed to keep your Hydrosonic Black Is White safe and sound.
Oh là là
Can I use my toothbrush in the shower?
Like all hydrosonic toothbrushes the Hydrosonic Black Is White is water resistant but not waterproof. So our recommendation is clear: No.
Has my toothbrush had it after two years when the guarantee runs out?
We would hate to think so. There are two things you can do to prolong the life of your toothbrush. Only recharge the battery when it is flat. And don't keep the Hydrosonic Black Is White upright when it is not in use but lay it on its side. This is because: Where the brush is fitted there is a small plastic coating to prevent water from entering the device but to enable the power to reach the brushes. If you stand the brush upright the toothpaste and water mixture cannot drain away. It mineralises on the plastic and over time small cracks appear, water is then able to enter the device and eventually it will no longer work If you rinse this area well after use and lay the device on its side, these tiny cracks have little chance of occurring.
What can I do to keep my Hydrosonic Black Is White happy?
There are a couple of things, and these apply to pretty much any sonic toothbrush: First: Only charge the battery when it is empty. Second: After using your Hydrosonic Black Is White, don't stand it up, but leave it lying flat. This is because of the plastic surround where the brush is attached, which stops water getting into the device while ensuring the power from the motor is still transmitted to the brush. If you stand the brush up, the mixture of toothpaste and water will not be able to drain away. It becomes mineralised against this plastic, which leads to microscopic cracks over a period of years. Water then gets in and the device no longer works. If you rinse this area thoroughly after use and lie the device flat, these microscopic cracks will only occur in very rare cases.
How do I clean my toothbrush?
The Hydrosonic Black Is White: Just rinse with clean water and possibly dry with a damp, soft cloth. The charger: Do not use any cleaning agents. Unplug and wipe with a soft, damp cloth.
